Dixie Chicks
Hi all, Matt and I just bought the new Dixie Chicks CD. It is amazing, in my opinion the best one yet. My favorite song is called "I'm not ready to make nice." Natalie Maines, basically sings her true feelings in regards to the career turmoil the Chicks faced after their London tour in 2003, when she expressed her thought on Bush (I don't need to go into detail here). This wreaked havoc in the world of country music. A huge fan base turned their backs on them, country radio banned playing their music on the airwaves and some still won't play it, and even their peers turned against them. Although this very country was founded on free speech, Natalie and the rest of the Chicks were persecuted for that very right. This isn't the first time it has happened, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Eminem, and other muscians have exercised their rights and not one of them has suffered the career fall-out that the Chicks have experienced, in fact it actually made it more successful. This song sums up a lot of thoughts and feelings that they are unable to express. Natalie basically says to the world, look: I'm not sorry for what I did, it's changed my life, it woke me up, I'm not going to forgive or forget, but I'm going to move on, and I'm better because of it. As far as loosing their fan base, the Chicks don't need those people anyhow, they are so talented they can find fans in a whole new musical genere because they are that good, they aren't just country, or blue grass, but a little of everything. If you haven't bought their new CD, I suggest you do, it's amazing, and if you don't like their style, at least buy the CD because you believe in your right for free speech.

I downloaded the CD the day it came out on iTunes. I agree. Love it. 'Not Ready to Make Nice' gives me chills when I listen to it. Lots of great songs on the album. I often think of you when I listen to the DC :)
Kate: don't get me wrong... I like DC music. they are all very talented & I completely agree about free speech, that's why I still listen to their older stuff & may open up to their newer stuff (I still bought the newest CD after her opposition speech). The problem with celebs nowadays think that everyone in the U.S. feels the way they do, and that, in itself, is wrong. You know you & I think differently & we both respect that. Everyone carries their pride for our great nation in different thought. The one problem from your description of the song is that Natalie, basically, isn't going to FORGIVE or forget. She doesnt' have to FORGET, but if she wants to follow on the path of Light, aka, Jesus, it would be wise to forgive her so-called 'enemies' and continue to love them for their differences in thought (in which BOTH sides should practice this). I don't really care what her polical thoughts are... please just continue to make good music.
that last comment was from me... Dawn
yeah, me pretty much my life story, the whole album, it truly has helped me overcome my latest crisis of bobby and i splitting up. I listen to it every where i go, i played it all weekend and on the boat while i laid on the beach. Papa Myers absolutely loves it and i think that it will become our new car ride cd, like the old one was for so long, family car rides to long distant places. i am so happy that i bought it, now all threee of us girls own it, so there wil never be withdraws.
